The fine art
project has been launched and I’m struggling for inspiration, I think I’ve
decided to go with the word ‘Isolated’ and focus on people in isolating situations.
On a quiet day at work I noticed two men sat drinking together but not saying a
word, I grabbed a pen and some till roll and stood behind the bar to draw them.
I also did a few abstract, colourful experiments while at college. I like the
idea of combining these two styles, however I’m seriously struggling to see how
I can turn this into a whole 3 week project, hopefully I’ll return from half
term with some new ideas.

The deadline
is tomorrow and while I feel my sketchbook is full of a lot of experiments and
information I’m kind of gutted I didn’t have enough time to finish my final
piece, even though I know it was only a 3 week project and no one was expected
to finish them. I decided for my final piece I was going to make a 3d structure
of one of the buildings I’ve been studying and ‘re-vamp’ it with colourful
embroidery thread. While a dabbled with a few ideas I settled on using
cardboard as it was easier to get the most done in order to show what my ideas
were for the project however I love the idea of creating something bigger using
laser-cut wood. Maybe another time.

I finally
managed a trip to Parcel Force this week, had to blag my way through the gates
at the train station so I could go and stand on the end platform in order to
get some decent pictures of the building, however there was a train in the way
that wasn’t due to leave for a good 20 minutes so decided getting on the train,
walking up and down it and sticking my head out of the window to get my
pictures was the only way! It did mean I got that extra couple of feet closer
to the building so I guess it worked to my advantage. I then printed all of my
favourite pictures out in order to sew into them and experiment with other
ideas. I also got a couple photos of Bristol Cathedral and I want to work
church structures into my project. I ended this week with a trip to an exhibition
in Stokes Croft called ‘Derelict Dolls House’ as I thought it would give me
some inspiration for my project.

After
the launch of the project title at the start of this week I spent the rest of
the week getting very excited about plans that I didn’t really manage to pull
off. However, within the first half of the launch I had already decided which
artists I wanted to look at and which type of architecture I wanted to study.
Abandoned buildings have always fascinated me and I was very excited to get
started on a project that allowed me to focus on them. I planned to go and
photograph some old buildings I had seen around Bristol and always wanted to
break into, some ideas surrounding the old parcel force building behind temple
meads had really started to take shape in my mind, however I didn’t manage to
get out and photograph any of these buildings this week. I made my mood board
and a couple sewing samples, which inspired a few new ideas as well, but next
week’s goal is to get out and get those pictures.
